NARM’s SE Crash Course: An Introduction to Somatic Experiencing

What is Somatic Experiencing (SE) exactly?  And how does the theory and practice of SE inform NARM?  Come learn about the basics of SE in a Friday evening Introduction to Somatic Experiencing, led by Brad Kammer.

Brad will assure that you walk away with a solid understanding of SE theory – how overwhelming experiences disrupt our threat response system, leading to unresolved fight, flight and freeze states; and how these unresolved states lead to the symptoms of trauma and stress-related syndromes.  The learning will be supported by reviewing the latest in neuroscience, studying animals in the wild, and watching SE developer Dr. Peter Levine work with a Iraqi War Veteran.

You will also learn and practice basic SE skills, which will help you grasp the SE language that Larry has integrated into NARM – concepts like felt sense, titration, pendulation, resourcing, SIBAM, overcoupling, undercoupling, etc.

This SE crash course will be useful for SE students as well – it’s an opportunity to gain another teacher’s perspective on orienting to and working with nervous system dysregulation.

Brad has been studying, practicing and teaching SE for many years, and has been part of bringing SE to various communities throughout the world.  In addition to being a Somatic Psychotherapist, Brad is a college professor, whose passion lies in the integration of Somatic Psychology with Interpersonal Neurobiology, focusing on the interplay of shock and developmental trauma.
